Graham Duncan will give us an introduction to Kirstenbosch and how he came to spend his entire working life there. He will then focus on the unequalled diversity of bulbs in the Cape area and the history and purpose of the bulb collection at Kirstenbosch with particular reference to Nerines. He will also refer to the South African bulbs we can grow in our gardens in Guernsey.

Dr. Graham Duncan is recently retired from Kirstenbosch National Botanic Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa and is an acknowledged expert on South African bulbs. He has written many books, scientific papers and articles about South African bulbous plants. His special interest is in the genera Lachenalia, Nerine and Agapanthus. He has studied Lachenalia for more than 40 years, about which he recently obtained his PhD.
