Marianne North, Victorian botanist and painter

November 17, 2021 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

£10 – £15

We are joining with The Arts Society for a lecture by Dr Twigs Way on Marianne North (1830-1890), who was an accomplished botanical painter and inveterate traveller. She led an unconventional life capturing the life essence of exotic and rare plants in their native lands. This talk explores both the life and social context of Marianne North, including discussion of why her paintings troubled deeply conservative Victorian society and the eventual creation of her gallery at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
Tickets should be bought in advance at £10 for members. Non-members of either The Art Society or Plant Heritage Guernsey are £15. Please make reservations with our Treasurer, Maggie Thompson, email: maggie.thompson@cwgsy.net, paying either online
Sort Code 60-09-20, Account 13414283, or by cheque made out to Plant Heritage Guernsey, sent to The Treasurer, Les Rouvets, Les Rouvets Road, Vale, GY6 8NQ. You will then be checked off the list as you enter the hall.
