This is Geranium maderense, which is pretty spectacular in the spring of year two, but then dies after a long flowering. However it self-seeds happily and finds its own preferred spots in your garden. It also comes in white. #Guernsey #LoveGuernsey #Gsy #GuernseyLife #PlantHeritage #PlantHeritageGuernsey #Plants #Flowers #geraniummaderense

Steph Watkins was chatting to Dr Sue Stuart-Smith on BBC Radio Guernsey this morning and if you use there listen back system you can hear their conversation from 10:18am. Dr Sue Stuart-Smith's talk The Well Gardened Mind is at Les Cotils tomorrow, 18 April from 7:00-8:00pm. Tickets will be available at the door.

The cowslips are out, but are not that easy to get going in Guernsey as our winters are not often cold enough for germination. They are perennial, so you can buy one at a garden centre, even if it has gone over and then be patient! I rather like the tall one in the photo as it has sent up a second flower through the first. #Guernsey #LoveGuernsey #Gsy #GuernseyLife #PlantHeritage #PlantHeritageGuernsey #Plants #Flowers #primrose

I was horrified to drive down St Jacques this morning and see that the Height Champion Yucca of the UK and Ireland has been unceremoniously chopped down, apparently with permission.

Mexican orange (Choisya ternata) has a light perfume and so it is ideal to grow behind a bench. It is happy to be pruned after flowering. #Guernsey #LoveGuernsey #Gsy #GuernseyLife #PlantHeritage #PlantHeritageGuernsey #Plants #Flowers #choisyaternata

Friends had great success growing on our PHG tomato plants, so I have decided to try myself this year. I bought my plant at the Sausmarez Manor Plant Stall on Saturday. I was advised to plant about six inches of the stem as well, having nipped off the little bits growing out of the V (see photo) both above and below the soil. In this way, the stem puts out more roots and you get a much stronger plant. I have added a couple of little marigolds as companion plants to ward away any whitefly. We have some tomato plants over and I will let you know tomorrow the varieties and how you can buy them. #Guernsey #LoveGuernsey #Gsy #GuernseyLife #PlantHeritage #PlantHeritageGuernsey #Plants #Flowers #tomatoplant
